Eaves Wood Trail Race
Arrived early dropping Em at work for Holgates, the weather was looking grim, first job was to set up the start and finish line, taking advantage of a break in the rain, next job was help with parking. 12pm time to get ready for the run not much time for a warm up but its a down hill start so that will have to do.
We are off 140 runners jostling down the wide road this part was easy under foot then its a turn onto the grass, then the muddy woods with all the rain we have had the going was very soft, the Limestone rock adding to the task of staying upright. All was going well, felt quite good until I went passed a Marshal through a stone stile and with all the slippey rocks under foot I just kept my head down watching my footing, glancing up only every now and then seeing other runners heading down a path and I just followed like a Sheep, after a while I could not see any white tape which we had been following earlier, this is the wrong way I thought, I was able to shout a few runners back but maybe 8 or 10 just kept going, turning around there was possibly another 10 or so with us running back the way we had just come I was so mad with myself when I noticed the tape hanging from a branch.
It was at this point I started to pick up the pace, bad mistake I suffered for it later catching and passing other runners does give you a boost but not enough! The final run in was a hard uphill climb but I was glad to see the finish.
Job done a bit disappointed with myself for going the wrong way but overall a nice run out on a wet and windy Sunday. Well done to the Marshals and thanks for the support.
